Family

In June 1939 very much in love, Tom married Rosemary Hudleston. Soon after, Tom enlisted in the army and they were separated for most of the war years. Their first son, Rodney was born in 1941.

After they were reunited at the end of the war, Jane and Lindy were born and Tom went back to his work in the printing trade.

Finally Tio and Nicholas arrived and the family was complete, along with the small zoo of pets that shared their home in 30 Comely Bank, Edinburgh.

Presiding in state over proceedings in the scullery was an Albion flat-bed printing press – a majestic machine that came to life every year when Tom produced his beautifully detailed Christmas cards.

This house was a wonderful home full of creativity and activity. Rosemary heroically rose to the task of running the busy household whilst Tom devoted almost every moment when he was not out bread-winning to painting.
