Vision
TGM desired to lead his viewers on an enigmatic journey in which they would establish for themselves their own meaning in his pictures. He responded with excitement when one viewer would ascribe with surety that he saw this or that subject in a painting and another something very different. It was as if he were a catalyst for their own creative act.
In his own words:
“In the triangle of the work, in addition to the points of technical procedure and formal content, there is another which I call investment, serving the interests of infinity. This is the vital visual property which words are powerless to contain. It is the variability and inflection of line; juxtaposition and inclination of shape; nuance and relationship of colour. It is the breath of the Spirit and the wonder of Life – in fact, the very purpose and meaning of Art.” -TGM 1968
